BlackWing Pencils

 I bought some new pencils for my degree project! I always read about how great blackwing pencils are and I always think about how I want to get them someday but I never do. The other day I realized I should buy some for my degree project as a special treat.

 I always have trouble drawing too lightly and I barely pressed down on the pencil and got a really good line. Its true they are half the pressure and really smooth. Worth it.
 I'm trying to get better at drawing hands and I found a great post by Toby Shelton. Check it out.

Homemade Animation Table

Every since I was a kid I always wanted to be a character animator. I used to watch movies over and over studying them. I had books on how to be a cartoonist and constantly drew. Now I'm a senior in college at Massachusetts College of Art and Design going for animation! I told my grandfather about all the work I am doing and how much I love school. I told him about how I want a desk to animate but they are hundreds of dollars. My grandfather is a handy man and makes all sorts of things. He asked if he could make me one and we looked up tutorials online. Thanks to my grandfather I have a beautiful animation desk and its even better because he made it for me.

My good friend Rebecca Linthwaite is always my willing victim for make up experiments. I have been watching True Blood lately because its October and I have been really inspired to do something vampy. Here are some pictures from our impromptu photo shoot.

Work Space

I started a mood board last year in my room above my desk. I really like working in my room. A lot of people have studios at school but I find it hard to focus with a bunch of people around me. I like to work with others for certain things but for the most part I need to be alone to think clearly.
Theres still a few empty spaces that need filling but its pretty much a full mood board!

I also want to state that the work on my mood board is NOT mine. Its stuff I rip out of magazines or print out online. I'm not claiming I own anything.

Degree Project Notes

These are some of my notes I wrote about degree project. For those of you who dont know what degree project is its your final film you make as a senior in animation at MassArt. So you will be hearing a lot about this from me this year.

I started doodling again in Environmental Science last week. I drew my character Fran as a witch. I was thinking of making a halloween card with her. Then I started drawing a bunch of witches and other things.

I have been really stressing out about degree project because its so hard to settle on an idea. I finally feel better because I have settled on one. For a while I felt like I was going to use my character Fran for my degree project but I wanted to do something new. Then it felt like crunch time to get a new idea. For two weeks I had trouble getting inspired and I think it was because I just kept thinking of how important the project was. The other day I had to come up with an idea for a project in another class. I sat down and started sketching and writing funny things. It came really easily. I think the key to degree project is to remind yourself that its just another project. Anyway I found an idea for my degree project that I'm really excited about and I feel a lot better. I will post more info on that soon :)

Crazy Notes

I have trouble paying attention in critical studies. I always start drawing and writing in my notebooks for class. Like girls as cupcakes.
