Style

ParrotFavorite

I am working on finding the right look for a children's book I am illustrating. This is part collage to give it texture. I love the font! The first letter is done in "Neo Retro Draw" font. I love it for this idea because it has negative space and reminds me of chalk drawing.

Hands On Music Event

Children's musician, Dara Linthwaite, invited me to one of her "Hands on Music" events at the "Quogue Library" in Long Island, New York. Here are some photos from our day.

Why Children Need Art

This is a great picture I saw posted on Facebook by the Massachusetts Teachers Association. The caption read 'Why we need art in our schools and in our lives'.

Blub Blub Blub BUBBLES!

BubbleMagicExpanded
I changed things around again. I will look at it later with a fresh eye to see if anything else comes to my attention.

I think the best thing to do is to make as many versions of something as possible to choose from. I only posted four versions of this but there was several sketches, color blockings and throw away tests.  I often make experiments I hate that spark brilliant ideas! You also learn what isn't working.

It also helps to have friends with art backgrounds to give you feedback ;)

Catch of the Night ©

During this semester I have been incredibly inspired by my Children's Literature class. In that class our final was to make a children's book. My story is called "Catch of the Night" and it was inspired by a story my mom told me when I asked her where babies come from. She told me there was a man on the roof who fished for stars in the night sky, that we all begin as baby stars and he delivered us to our parents, like the stork. This is the extended version. I am considering this to be a first draft. I plan to take a course on publishing children's books this summer and my goal is to get my story published and for it to be read to all the babies!!! I will post some photos of the construction of the book soon. As always feedback is welcome, everything can be enhanced for the better.
