Pinterest and Old Photos

My Pinterest account started as a fun place to kill time on the internet. Now it has become a big part of how I work. I like creating mood boards for projects I am working on and getting inspired by similar themes. I find it especially helpful when creating color palettes before I start designing something.

Right now I am in the middle of a few projects and I am pinning a lot to those boards. One of those is a illustration/character design page in my sketchbook about the Circus. Here is that board! I will post the finished project soon. 

Recently I have created a board of some old family photos for myself to have digital copies to share with my other family members, friends and anyone who enjoys retro photography.

In my search for these photos I have learned a lot of cool things about my family. This is my favorite so far, a photo of my grandmother on my mothers side Norma Phillips in her 1948 gym class. I had no idea she was a skilled archer!

I was really enjoying how gestural the ink was forcing me to be. Sadly my pen ran out. Next time I am going to do all ink. My goal is to stay loose! Keeping GPS in mind; gesture, proportion and structure.

I was cleaning my room today and found a bunch of old sketchbooks. I was looking through them and thinking of who I was when I was filling them. Its interesting to look back at observation drawings and remember where I was or who I was with and why I wanted to capture that thing in my sketchbook at that specific moment. Most of the drawings were bad but I remember how hard I was trying and even now I can see improvement in my self as I scroll through each sketchbook.
I think its true what people say, everyone has bad drawings in them and you have to draw as much as possible to get them out. A comfort you can take in this is you will never go backward in skill. You will only get better.

Summer Course

 Here are some pictures from my summer course, Figure in Clay with Gerry Hoag. Gerry is one of my favorite teachers at Mass Art I took Life Drawing with him my sophomore year and it changed the way I  think about the human figure. Gerry is a sculptor outside of teaching therefor he's always thinking in 3-d. He taught me to think 3 dimensionally when drawing in 2-d and I saw a huge improvement in my drawing skills. Later I took stop motion and a course in Maya which further caused me to think three dimensionally. So I was really excited to take Gerry's course Figure in Clay this summer. I learned a lot from working in 3d I think it has further improved the way I observe the figure and it will definitely come into play when working in 3d computer programs or any kind of real 3d work for stop motion or other projects.
 So here are some pictures I took on my phone during the whole process of my sculpture. I still want to finish it in wax so I will post final pictures soon.
